Synopsis: Maps of Iceland for Garmin mapping GPS receivers and other mobile devices such as Nokia mobile phones - place names maps, road maps, street maps, POI, etc.

This is a project to create series of maps for mapping Garmin GPS (nüvi, eTrex, GPSMAP, Oregon, Colorado, etc.) and Nokia mobile phones (N series) equipted with GPS. Maps for Garmin can be transformed into other map formats too (Magellan, etc). The "grey market GPS usually have the USA basemap which is good if you live in the US, but pretty ugly for us people in here - Iceland is an angular blob with most of Reykjavik in the water. We would love to see a series of Garmin maps that people here and overseas visitors can use and enjoy their visit to Iceland with local "points of interest". The maps we have produced do not overwrite the basemaps in your GPS or mobile device - the factory basemaps are held in a ROM and not writable.

Maps and instructions will be sent as files directly to you and can be uploaded into a GPS unit or used with a mapping program like Google Earth, etc.
